21st Century Classroom

21ST CENTURY CLASSROOM

CREATED FOR YOUTUBE

Chalkboards? Books? Overhead projectors? Those were the limits of technology in the 20th century. But in the present when most students carry a computer in their pocket and can access more information than any book could hold, it doesn’t make sense to check technology at the classroom door.

With the launch of its EDU program, YouTube wanted to showcase how schools can safely harness video learning and catch up to the present. We documented how one teacher, a 9th grade social studies teacher at Kent-Meridian High School in Kent, Washington used YouTube in his classroom to transform it into a 21st century learning environment. We had never seen more progressive, engaged, and fast-learning students than in this classroom. It almost made us want to repeat high school.
